About The Job

Since the AA Operation is reliant upon the design and support of our VHF, UHF, and AVTEC systems:

  • This highly technical position requires deep expertise in VHF Radio, UHF Radio, analog and digital Telephony, IP networking and AVTEC hardware and software implementation. The scope of this position is broad and includes the defining, designing, installing, maintaining (moving, updating, and providing IT work order resolution) support to the AA communication system architecture and network.?
  • Exceptional IP and IT analytical, technical, and interpersonal skills will be greatly needed and utilized in this significant and critical operations support position.? This position will work closely with a team of Senior Radio Engineers, vendors, and internal company departments to support the AA communication infrastructure.? This position is responsible for overseeing vendor accomplished tasks, accomplishing maintenance work orders, and verifying the quality of vendor services and/or equipment provided.? Experience in project management is a must and will be used extensively.?
  • This role also includes justifying financial requests and expenditures through the development of professionally written ?Five-Point Justification? Reports, clearly defining and documenting system designs of communication solutions prior to implementation, supporting the Integrated Operations Center per Upper Management requests and defining the policies and procedures used to effectively accomplish the tasks, goals, and vision of the department.?

  • This role is critical in ensuring compliance with company standards as well as local, state, federal and international regulations.?
  • Strong verbal communication, tailored to the specific audience, is required as work across many organizational boundaries occurs while developing quality solutions for a vast array of issues in this ever-changing technical and business environment.
  • Significant interaction with Governmental Agencies (Federal Aviation Administration, Federal Communications Commission), Industry Work Groups (Aeronautical Spectrum Resources, Inc.), and Company Departments in order to obtain and maintain optimal communication capability for the AA network.
  • Responsible for supporting the initiatives of IOC Management within the fast paced operational environment.
  • Assist in establishing and modifying departmental goals, policies and procedures for the American Airlines Operational Communication Engineering Department.?
  • Support a cross functionally trained department responsible for the operation of VHF, UHF, and AVTEC communication systems within the AA network.?
  • Assists with future technology projects to ensure AA continues to be an industry leader in all communication technology changes and airline operations.?
  • 25- 75% travel and 24/7 support required.?

Qualifications

Required Qualifications

? Bachelors Degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Related Field
? Minimum of 3 years related job experience
? Must have extensive knowledge of voice, data, radio, IP networking, and console system architecture and design
? Must understand the operational requirements of the IOC, Control Center and Station communication systems
? Must be able to remain on top of the rapid technological changes within the industry
? Must have the ability to work with limited supervision, be highly motivated, persistent, a self-starter and able to manage multiple projects, groups of people, and company/industry changes simultaneously
? Must possess the ability to understand and effectively communicate across all organizational boundaries
? PC skills, Microsoft Office Suite mastery, spreadsheets, and word processing is required
? Excellent interpersonal skills
? Strong analytical and communication skills required
? Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel, both internal and external

?

Preferred Qualifications

? Minimum Job Experience of at least 3-5 Years
? Higher Education and Certifications including Masters Degree
? Prior managerial / supervisory experience preferred.
? Demonstrated leadership ability.
? Thorough familiarity with all aspects of Part 121 operations, policies, and procedures.
? PMP certification desired
? Masters Degree Preferred
? FCC License highly desired
? FAA Certificate (Commercial-Instrument-Pilot/Dispatch Certificate/Navigator License) desired
? 10+ years of experience in military or part 121 air carrier?s operations exposure desired
